The Bullit Fuel door actually replaces the stock fuel door. Once installed it sits flush with the body and does not stick out at all. This particular item is a direct Ford part and was actually used on the 2001 Mustang Bullit.

Just to let you know the "Bullitt Fuel Door" (P/N: 161-M-2301-E) fit my 98 GT just fine. If the question ever comes up again, here's my "review":

For installation on my 98 I had to get nuts and washers. They are not included in the kit, presumably you don't need them on a 99+. Also I had to trim off the rubber stops at the rear end of the fuel opening on the car, no need to remove the bolts, you can trim the rubber off without doing that.

As the rear quarter panel on my 98 is shaped differently than a 99+, the fit is not perfect. The forward end of the kit fits flush with the car, but the rear protrudes about 1 - 2 mm. My wife says it's not noticable or even undesirable, she would never have seen it if I hadn't pointed it out.

Overall, a nice way to get a bit of a "racey" look with a simple install.

Really like the look of my mach with this item. Stands out against the Azure Blue. Good quality and easy install.
